In the event of inclement weather, coaches should note the following rules surrounding canceling games:
1. Coaches cannot cancel games because of weather. Only the president of the association hosting the game (i.e. the Avonworth Soccer Association president) OR the game referees can cancel a game. If you are very concerned about a specific game’s field conditions, please collaborate with the refs to express your concerns. Many of our refs are in high school and having a conversation with them is typically the best way to reach the correct decision about the game. Most weeks someone will evaluate the fields in advance. If you are able to do this personally and find the conditions to be unacceptable hours before the game, please communicate with the ASA president to facilitate an official cancellation. One of ASA’s primary goals is to be a good steward of the fields and to not damage them by playing on them unnecessarily.
2. Rescheduling / Changing Games – If you need to reschedule or change a game time or date please contact the ASA scheduler and copy the referee assignor. This needs to be done at least a week in advance for weekend games and the week prior for weekday games. It’s usually not possible to change game times the week of the game and the change is not guaranteed. If you can request the change at least a week in advance and the fields are open, then we generally try to accommodate the change.
